Obituary

GARLAND - Albert Hartley, 84, died December 27, 2020 at his residence with his wife of 63 years by his side. He was born May 28, 1936 in Corinna, a son of Lee and Mary (Bemis) Hartley. He graduated from Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1954 and went to Saco-Lowell in Biddeford to train as a machinist apprentice. In 1958 he started working for Fay-Scott in Dexter for the next 45 years. In 2003 he went to Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor to receive a degree in culinary arts. He worked at Dirigo Pines in Orono until heart problems forced him to retire. He had a busy life doing many other jobs. Albert was a part time deputy sheriff for Penobscot County. He was a member of the Garland School Board, SAD 46 board member, a charter member of the Silver Lake Housing Committee, a member of the Garland Fire Department, the Boy Scout committee, and a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge in Dexter. He also volunteered at the Safe Place Food Pantry in Corinth and always had his dog Mimi in his lap. Albert had plenty of other interests and hobbies from hunting, fishing, bee keeping and RV camping but his favorite hobby was being a private licensed pilot. He owned two airplanes: a Cessna and a Citabria. When heart trouble kept him from flying he took up woodworking making kitchen tools and wooden bowls. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Towle) Hartley of Garland; a daughter Kayla Nelson (David) in CA; son Kent Hartley and partner Lisa of Dexter; grandchildren, Stacy (Fred) Gallant of Buxton, Kelly (Justin) Dent of PA, Chad (Pamela) Hartley of Garland, Ashle Gerrard (partner Al )of CA, and Daryl Hartley of MO; step grandchildren, Eric and Shawn Moulton of Bangor; as well as great grandchildren; a brother Robert (Debbie) Hartley of Dexter; sisters, Elizabeth Richards of NH, Janice Nichols of Dexter, and Azeanith Lockwood of VT; sisters in law Lois (John) Hartley of Cambridge and Mary Ann (George) Hartley of Dover-Foxcroft; and many friends from P. E. I. that made camping a pleasure for 32 years. He was predeceased by a son Kelvin in 2015, Kelvin's wife Tammy in 2016, son Karl in 2017 and grandson Kevin in 2017; brothers Donald, Perry, Leland, John and George Hartley, and Raymond Phelps; sisters Hilda (Hartley) Thibodeau, Geraldine "Dolly"( Hartley) Knowles, and Bernice (Phelps) Berkenfield. There will be no public services at this time, however, there will be a spring committal service at the Corinna Center Cemetery. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice for their fine care of Albert, and also Roman and Susie Kresina for the Bible readings and support. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Dexter.
