MONSON- Althea French, 83, died March 13, 2011, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born in Monson, May 30, 1927, daughter of Arthur and Alice Champion) Haggstrom.

She was a member of the Monson Historical Society, the Monson United Church of Christ, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, James H. French and his wife, Sherry of Guilford; a daughter, Nancy Taylor of Dover-Foxcroft; 5 grandchildren, Julie and her husband Ed and their son, Gannon of Presque Isle, James E. of Guilford, Kristen and her companion, Tom Asturias of Sandy, Utah, Laura and her husband, Shawn of Newtown, CT and their children Aaron and Sofia; Daniel and his daughter, Tianna of Dover-Foxcroft; a step grandson, Jerod Edes and his wife, Ashley of Glenburn; a sister, Joyce Allen of Dover-Foxcroft; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold E. French; and a son, Daniel E. French.

Friends may call 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Crosby & Neal, 21 Oak Street in Guilford where funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday.

Spring burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Monson. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Monson Alumni Association, P.O. Box 227, Monson, ME 04464.
