PLYMOUTH - Basil Burnette, 85, died November 17, 2018 at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta. He was born June 16, 1933 in South Amboy, New Jersey, a son of Earl and Mary (Wilson) Burnette. Basil graduated from Matawan High, Class of 1952, and served in the U. S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. He was employed by Davey Tree Company as a tree surgeon, and then went on to work for the Old Bridge Township Road Department until he retired.
He was a sportsman and spent much time in the woods of Maine, New Jersey and Colorado. He was an accomplished rehabilitator of abandoned and orphaned animals. The family would like to thank the Maine Veterans' Home for their incredible compassion and dedication to Basil's care.
He is survived by his loving wife Lee of 43 years. Basil will be sadly missed by sisters-in-law, Donna Sikorskas and husband Frank, Helen Lorraine Lear all of Colts Neck, NJ, Carol Burnette Metivier and husband Peter of Corinna; nephews, Allen Burnette and wife Michelle, Scott Burnette and wife Theresa; a very dear nephew Tyler Sikorskas; nieces, Holly and Heather Lear; many grand nieces and nephews; and he will also be remembered by the many good friends he made throughout his lifetime. Basil was predeceased by a son Michael and a twin brother Warren.
Basil had requested no funeral services. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date. Cremation arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
