CORINNA - Bessie Guay, 93, died January 15, 2021 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born July 13, 1927 in Livingstone, Tennessee, a daughter of Dillard and Maude (Langford) Martin. After graduating from Livingstone Academy she worked for the principal there for over 2 years before enlisting in the Army. She was a WAC after completing Army Administration School at Ft. Dix, NJ. There she met the love of her life Joe Guay from Exeter. They were married March 25, 1955 and were stationed at Ft. Myers, VA and the Pentagon. Bessie completed her tour with a military position with the Department of Defense. After being discharged they came to Maine to raise their family. She was a stay at home mom until the children were of school age. She retired from Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna.
She is survived by 2 sons, Joseph and wife Bonny of Hudson, John of Corinna; 2 daughters, Mary Ann and husband Jeffery Pinkerton of Bangor, Beth and husband Ronald Simpson of Corinna; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, Sr., a grandson Matthew, a daughter in law Alice, a brother Bulos Martin and sister Bonza Dennis.
A private military committal service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Memorial donations may be made to the Travis Mills Foundation, 747 Western Avenue, Manchester, ME 04351. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal.
