NEWPORT & SENECA, SC - Brent Rodney Brooks, 68, died April 5, 2019 at Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, SC. He was born August 17, 1950 in Dexter a son of Herbert and Marilyn (Hutchins) Brooks.

After graduating from Dexter Regional High School, he served in Vietnam in the Marine Corps, and later, in the U. S. Army. Brent retired as manager of Brooks Tire and Auto in 2008. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dexter. He belonged to the Barrows-Skidgel American Legion in Newport, and the Shirley B. Carter Post Veterans of Foreign Wars, also of Newport, where he served as commander for 6 years. He was also a past commander of District # 5, V.F.W. for 2 years. He was a member of the Marine Corps League.

In addition to his father of Dexter, he is survived by his wife, Sherry (Ver Hey) Brooks of Seneca, S.C.; a daughter, Brandee Brooks and husband Darin Beaulieu, and his daughters, Morgan, Crystal and Shania and husband of Dexter; a brother, Herbert "Butch" Brooks, Jr. and wife Brenda, and a sister, Shirley Patterson and husband David, all of Dexter; 2 grandchildren, Decklyn, Tawnee, and husband Israel Dorman; 3 great grandchildren, Charles, Nirvana and Xavier John Dorman; special brothers and sisters in law, and a special niece who was like a daughter, Dorothy Watson and significant other, Steve Tripoldi.

Services will be announced later in the spring by Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport.
