Carroll J. Dubay
February 27, 1939 – November 1, 2026
Carroll J. Dubay, 87, of Sangerville, Maine, passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Carroll was born on February 27, 1939, in Winterville, Maine, to Walter Dubay and Cecile Pinette. He grew up in Sangerville, where his Maine roots and love of the outdoors first took hold. After graduating from Piscataquis Community High School, Carroll moved to Rockville, Connecticut, where he began building the life that would eventually bring him back home to Maine.
On July 22, 1961, Carroll married his beloved wife, Sharon, beginning a marriage and partnership that spanned 51 years. In June 1962, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving until 1964 as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. He was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone, where he put his mechanical skills to work in service to his country. Following his honorable discharge, Carroll returned to Rockville, Connecticut, where he went to work for Pratt & Whitney.
In 1972, Carroll and Sharon returned to Maine to raise their family, settling back in the place he had always called home. Together, they built a life centered on family, hard work, and the simple pleasures of being together.
Carroll dedicated more than 40 years of his working life to the trades as a mechanic and machinist. He was a craftsman in the truest sense of the word, known for his meticulous attention to detail, patience, and remarkable ability to work with his hands. Whether repairing machinery, building something from scratch, or creating something beautiful from raw materials, Carroll took pride in doing things right. He didn't just work with his hands; he built a life with them.
Outside of work, Carroll found happiness in the outdoors and in creating things that would last for generations. He loved fishing and hunting, building his family home and a cabin in the Maine woods, crafting custom cedar canoes, and restoring and building furniture. He enjoyed the satisfaction of taking something apart and bringing it back to life, or turning an idea into something tangible. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends. The home, the woods, the projects, and the memories made along the way were all part of the life he loved.
Carroll was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon Dubay; his parents, Walter and Cecile Dubay; his sister, Bernadine Janco; and his nephew, Arthur LeBlanc.
He leaves behind his sons, Eric Dubay and his partner, Lori Keyte; step grandchildren Jacob Rivera and Brandon Rivera; Greg Dubay and his spouse, Karen; his grandson, Matthew Dubay; and his sister, Charlene Welch.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Donald Brown and his spouse, Joanne Brown, of Derry, NH; Sister-in-law Bonnie Fitzpatrick of Bangor, ME; Monica Hanlon and her spouse, Terrance Hanlon, of Sanbornton, NH; Thomas Welch of Bolton, MA; Diana Ingerson and her spouse, Robert Ingerson, of North Sutton, NH; Stephanie Scordino and her spouse, Joseph Scordino, of Natick, MA; John Paul Welch of Hudson, MA; Donna Ferrara and her spouse, Joseph Ferrara, of Winthrop, MA; Marcia Wallace and her spouse, Aaron Wallace, of Plymouth, MA; Cheryl Mader of South Windsor, CT; and Tony Janco and his spouse, Kathy Janco, of Hudson, NH. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Carroll will be remembered for his strong work ethic, craftsmanship, quiet dedication, love of the outdoors, and, most importantly, his devotion to his family. The things he built, the skills he passed along, and the memories he leaves behind will remain a lasting part of the lives he touched.
A Catholic Mass in celebration of Carroll's life will be held on Friday, November 20, 2026, at 10:00AM, St. Anne's Catholic Church, 64 Free Street, Dexter, Maine. A graveside ceremony with military honors will be held in the spring of 2027, with details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carroll's memory to the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org/.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
