Obituary

Cecilia "Freda" Wintle Wortman DEXTER - Cecilia "Freda" Wintle Wortman, 87, passed away September 14, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Freda was born April 4, 1935 in Dexter, the youngest daughter of George E. and Margaret (Davies) Green who immigrated from England in 1923. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1953 and was immediately hired to clerk in the Engineering Department of Fay & Scott Company. She remained in the employ of Fayscott for 43 years, working in various departments, retiring as Personnel Manager in 1997. She married John M. Wortman in 1967 and they raised three children. She was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church where she was a member of St. Anne's Ultreya, having made her Cursillo in August 1987. She was a prior member of the Parish Council, Past President of the local American Legion Auxiliary, past member of the Daughters of Isabella, a past volunteer at the Meals for Me site in Dexter, and an past member of the Sunshine Club. Freda's children and grandchildren were a very important part of her and John's lives, with fun gatherings at their family home and summers at the Wortman cottage on Lake Wassookeag. After her retirement, she and John enjoyed traveling and spent fifteen winters in Florida. In addition to her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, she is survived by her children, Stephen and wife Lorraine Wintle of Dexter, Jana Tobin and husband Jim of Owls Head, John Wortman, Jr. and wife Ann of Groton, MA; 6 grandchildren, Angela Wheaton and husband Nick, Alyson Crest and husband Eric, James "JT" Tobin and wife Makaye, Molly Tobin, Ainsley Wortman and John "Jack" Wortman, III; 4 great grandchildren Audrey and Katelyn Wheaton and Cecilia and Evelyn Crest; 3 step grandchildren and their families, Amy Schneider, Michelle Dauphinee and Dori Fogarty, including 10 step great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dearest friend Teresa Denbow and husband David. She was predeceased by her first husband, Francis "Hank" Wintle, 3 sisters, Virginia Alley, Rosaline Bearce and Stella Richards. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Diane Perkins and Alice Haggert who cared for Freda in her final months. Friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main Street, Dexter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 P.M. Tuesday, September 20th, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Dexter, with the Rev. Fr. Rob Lupo and Deacon David Denbow officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
