Obituary

Cheryl L. Whitten PALMYRA – Cheryl Linda (Hall) Whitten, 73, died September 3, 2023 at a healthcare facility in Hartland. She was born January 6, 1950 in Augusta, a daughter of Lawrence and Glennis (Lowe) Hall. In 1969, she graduated from Erskine Academy in South China. Later that year she married David Whitten. She worked at Edwards in Pittsfield for 15 years. Cheryl and David created a loving home for their four children. She was a devoted wife, and mother that was family oriented. She and her husband David treasured time spent together; especially with their grandchildren. They also enjoyed gardening, canning, and fishing together on Big Indian Pond. Many adventures began with a drive down the road to see what adventure, or campsite in the woods, lay beyond the horizon. She loved riding around on David's trapping or fishing trips because it was time they spent together. She enjoyed singing. She knew many different songs, but one of her favorites was "Amazing Grace". In between adventures and all she did for others she enjoyed reading romantic novels. Some special times included Halloween when they took their kids trick-or-treating. She liked to see her children and other kids in their costumes as well as the decorated homes in the neighborhood. Later she reveled in seeing all the grandkids dressed in their Halloween costumes. Christmas was a time where the family gathered in their home. Cheryl prepared a great dinner right down to the pies to ensure everyone was well fed. She was willing to give up the last piece of pie even if it meant she had none, which showed her deep care for others. She had a huge heart that loved and cared for many of her children's friends who adopted her as a second mom. Often a game of cards brought the family together where people huddled around their hands in Canasta or Cribbage. Cheryl is survived by her son T.J. Whitten, his wife Valerie, and their children, Jayde, Meagan and Olivia; her three daughters, Belinda Whitten and daughters Chandra and Samantha (and great grandchildren Isabelle, Benjamin, and Nikolai); Jennifer Whitten and her children Jason II, Madison (her son Larry), and Eva Ramsdell; Victoria, husband Michael McGuire and son David; sister, Marcia Hall and daughter Angel. She was loved and was adored by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband David Whitten, her brother Jeffrey Hall, and her beloved sisters/brothers-in-law, Barbara and Linwood Morse, Rowena and Guy Staples, and Susan and Aubrey Robinson. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 7th, at the First Baptist Church, 5 Main Street Hill, Dexter. She will be buried in the Palmyra Village Cemetery beside the love of her life, David. Thanks to all the care and support by the staff at the Sanfield Rehabilitation and Living Center.
