Stetson – Constance (Wakem) Merrill, 87, passed away November 15, 2024 at her home where she raised her family. She was born in Presque Isle on August 16, 1937 to the late Herman and Muriel Wakem. She was a 1955 graduate of Presque Isle High School. During high school, she spent summers with family in Kenduskeag, where she met her husband Charles. They were married on September 27, 1957 and shared 61 years together. Connie was an active member of her community. Serving many years as Treasurer for the Town of Stetson, Historical Society Board, Meetinghouse Committee and other committees. She held the position of treasurer with the Sebasticook Valley Snowmobile club for many years and was an active member since its creation. She is survived by two sons, Mark E. Merrill and partner Karen, and Kelly C. Merrill of Stetson; her daughter, Jody L. Lyford and husband Robert of Stetson; four grandchildren, Heather Pelletier and husband Josh of Hermon, Jordan Lyford and wife Kaitlyn, James Merrill and fiance Meredith, and Holly Merrill, all of Stetson; four great grandchildren, Aiden, Charlotte, Jewell, and Violet; her sister, Sherry Petty of Virginia; and a special sister-in-law, Shirley Eells of Stetson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles. Connie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved her family, playing the piano, and all plants. She had a green thumb and each summer her porch was adorned with beautiful flowers. Connie enjoyed watching the birds come to her feeders. She cherished time spent with family. Friends and family may call on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 10AM-12PM at Crosby and Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport, ME. Immediately following calling hours, a funeral will be conducted at 12PM at Crosby and Neal, with interment to follow at Clarks Hill cemetery, Stetson, ME. Immediately following interment, the family invites relatives and friends for continued fellowship at Stetson Community Center, 394 Village Rd., Stetson, ME.
