Obituary

PALMYRA - Craig A. Arno, 66, died peacefully September 29, 2022, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston surrounded by his loving family. Craig was born December 5, 1955, in Skowhegan. He was a son of Roscoe W. and Patricia A. (Scribner) Arno. Craig grew up in Hartland and in 1974 graduated from Nokomis Regional High in Newport. After high school, Craig proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1974 to 1978. In 1980, he graduated from EMVTI in Bangor with an associate's degree in automotive mechanics. Craig was employed by Maine Sysco for many years, until he started his career in construction. During his career he was employed by Stiffler Construction in Saint Albans and Sawyer Builders in Newport. There wasn't any job Craig couldn't do at work or at home. Craig enjoyed playing soccer in high school. He especially loved hunting, fishing, camping trips and nights spent by the campfire with his family and friends. Trapping with his wife and Roger Burke was something he looked forward to every trapping season. He will always be remembered for his famous Donald Duck impression, which brought surprise and laughter to the children and adults. Craig was happiest spending time with his four grandchildren. When asked about his favorite childhood memory, his response was his grandmother Arno making fresh donuts and Newman Gee and friends running to the back door when they smelled the donuts cooking. Craig would only share the donut holes and not the donuts. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan (Jakins) Arno of Palmyra; two daughters, Jill Arno of Pittsfield and her two children Parker Millett and Gracie Guenther, Amy O'Connor and husband Matthew, and their two children Olivia and Owen O'Connor all of South Portland; brother in law Scott and wife Marilyn Jakins of Newport; two sisters in law Shelby Sawyer of Saint Albans and Cindy and husband Mike Michaud of Bradford; along with many cherished nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Roscoe & Patricia Arno, sister Vicki Connell, and his special Nan Nan, Evelyn Hicks. He will be greatly missed by his loving family, and friends. The graveside burial service will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, October 15th at Riverside Cemetery in Newport with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. A celebration of life for Craig will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Maine Trappers Association, c/o Mike Lapham, 73 Shaws Mill Road, Gorham, ME 04038. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
