Dale

Liggett

Obituary

Adventurous, loving, funny, and immeasurably dedicated, Dale Nolan Liggett, known to many as "Salty," embarked on his final voyage on May 6, 2025. Born in Cincinnati, OH on December 21, 1938, Dale charted a course in life that was as remarkable as it was inspiring. As Mark Twain once said, "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you do." Dale lived by this mantra, seizing every opportunity for a new adventure with a ready smile and a twinkle in his eye. Dale was a decorated navigator in the Navy, earning a Bronze Star for his courage and dedication. After retiring, he found a second home in Ripley, Maine, where he further demonstrated his love for the Water as a Captain in Merchant Marine and a Maine Licensed State Guide. He was a proud member of the Penobscot Lodge #39 Dexter Maine, where he served as a dedicated Shriner. His sense of humor, often reflected in his funny anecdotes and jokes, was infectious and brought joy to all who had the pleasure of his company. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, whose love for his family knew no bounds. Though he was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Augusta Liggett, and his loving wife Shirley "Cookie" Liggett, Dale's legacy continues to be celebrated by his 4 daughters, Nolana Mctague, Faylene Wilson, Annette Babcock, Holly-Ann Zellner and the many lives he touched. His life was a tapestry of stories woven with threads of love, humor, dedication, and adventure. He valued his country, family, and fishing above all else, and his love for each was evident in his daily life. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will forever remain alive in our hearts. Please join us in celebrating Dale's vibrant life by sharing your favorite memories and photos of him on his memorial page. Let us remember him for the adventurous, funny, dedicated, and loving man he was, and let his story continue to inspire us all. A graveside service will be held Saturday the 24th, at 2pm, at Ferndale Cemetery in Ripley, Maine.
