Dexter- David A. Clukey, 85, passed away in Dexter on Sunday, May 31st, 2026, with his loving wife Linda by his side.
He was born in Dexter on October 14th, 1940, to Bernard R. and Louise E. (Mossman) Clukey. He attended Dexter schools and graduated in 1958.
David was a proud member of the law enforcement community, committing 40 years of his life to the town of Dexter, serving 25 years of it as the town's Police Chief. He was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church and a member of the Dexter chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
In his spare time, David was also an avid woodworker and carpenter. He built several homes through the years in addition to spending countless hours in his workshop crafting unique and personal items for family and friends. His wife Linda always had a honey-do list of projects for him to create if he ran out of ideas.
While proud of his career, David was even more proud of his family. He looked forward to weekends with shared meals followed by time spent conversing, listening to music, and telling stories. In his later years he looked forward to summers in Dexter with cookouts and campfires by the lake, while winters were spent in their home in Alabama enjoying the warmth of the sunshine.
No matter the location, the most important aspect of it all was family. David loved conversing with everyone, telling stories about times passed, and making jokes or comments that always brought forth lots of laughter. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always in attendance at every birthday, sporting event, rodeo, graduation, and wedding. Each of them would seek him out in the crowd and always smile with pride knowing he was there.
