Obituary

Dexter, Maine — Dennis D. Nelson, 77, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026. He was born on January 29, 1949, in Dexter, Maine, the son of the late Spurgeon and Dorothy Nelson.

Dennis was born and raised in Dexter and graduated from Dexter High School in 1967. He went on to dedicate more than 40 years of his working life to the Central Maine Railroad, where he worked as a Trackman. Through his years of hard work and dedication, Dennis built lasting friendships and earned the respect of those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.

Dennis was a member of the Army Reserves and was proud of his service to his country. Outside of work, he enjoyed the simple things in life and made the most of his time with family and friends. He loved hunting, playing golf, and watching NASCAR, with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver.

Some of Dennis's favorite memories were made at camp on Thanksgiving Pond, where he enjoyed spending time with his brother-in-law Charlie and the rest of the family. He also loved riding the side-by-side with his wife, Sheree. The two could easily spend a day exploring together, often traveling more than 95 miles and enjoying every moment of the adventure.

Dennis was a man who never met a stranger. He was a friend to all who knew him, and his easygoing nature, kindness, and willingness to share a laugh will be remembered by many. Above all, Dennis treasured his family and the time he spent with those he loved. His beloved dog, Bella, was also a very special part of his life.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Sheree; their beloved dog, Bella; his stepson, Michael, and his wife, Christina; his sister, Rebecca, and her children, Stephen and his wife, Brenda, Michael and his wife, Gina, and Jeffery and his wife, Stacy; his sister, Roberta, and her husband, Rodney, and their children, Bill and his wife, Debbie, Lori and her husband, Scott, and Kevin and his wife, Nicci; as well as brother-in-law Rick and his wife Judy, brother-in-law Rance and his wife Susie, sister-in-law Tammi and her husband Steve, and sister-in-law Barbara.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mason and her partner, Whit; Kamaryn and her husband, Nathan; Kelsey and her husband, Mark; and Colby and his partner, Jadaiah; as well as his great-grandchildren, Walker, Hayden, and Jakobi.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his first wife, Julie; their beloved daughter, Heidi Renee and her dog, Abby; and brother-in-law Gary.

Dennis leaves behind a lifetime of memories shared with family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to know him. His love of adventure, his friendships, his sense of humor, and the many stories created along the way will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Dennis’ name to keep his legacy moving forward.

A graveside service will be held at Morses Corner Cemetery in Corinna on August 24th, 2026 at 11:30am.
