NEWPORT - Dolores B. Fernald, 96, died May 30, 2020 at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 6, 1923 in Newport, a daughter of James and Florence (Lynch) Bryson, Sr. She graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1943. Dot married Albert F. Fernald on September 9, 1949. She started her working career as a clerk at Barrett's Five and Dime on Main Street in Newport. She then worked many years and in a wide variety of categories at Cummings Mill, later Guilford Industries of Maine in Newport. Dot also worked at the Nokomis High School hot lunch program for many years. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church in Pittsfield, and was a very active member and worker for the Sebasticook Valley Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a longtime poll clerk for the Town of Newport. She is survived by her son and his wife, Paul and Joni Fernald of Detroit; a special grandson, Travis P. Fernald of Palmyra; and a sister, Gloria Burrill of Corinna. Dot was predeceased by her husband Albert; 3 brothers, James Bryson, Jr., Lewis Bryson and Ralph Bryson; and 4 sisters, Louise Lovejoy, Phyllis MacDonald, Jackie DeLong and Marilyn Bolduc. The family wishes to thank Brenda Welch for helping Dot remain in her home. At her request, there will be no public services. A graveside committal service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
