Obituary

CORINNA-Donald "Donnie" Lee Nye passed away unexpectedly on February 2, 2022. Donnie was born August 21, 1942 in Perham, Maine to Orlo, Sr. and Margaret (Kennedy) Nye. He graduated from Corinna Union Academy in 1961 and was involved in many activities during his time there. He served as Class President, was in the student council, and a member of the National Honor Society. Always a sports lover, he also played basketball and baseball. Donald, Donnie, Grandpa, Dad, Uncle left behind his wife of 51 years, Mary (Murchison) Nye; his 2 daughters, Jaime Cote and husband Mike, and Katie Grant and husband Josh; Grandchildren, Lindsay, Ethan, Alex, and Andrew; two grand dogs, Sammy (whom he shared a birthday and loved to eat a good cheeseburger with) and Baxter; sister, Edith and husband Richard, brother, Gerald. He truly loved his family more than anything in the world. He left us to join his siblings: Phyllis, Alberta, Gladys, Clarence, Orlo, Jr. and Phillip. He had many nieces and nephews that included Marcia Boody, Stewart Nye, Mary Sawyer, Lisa Wright, Reggie and Ronnie Nelson, Diana Berube, John and Joel Nye, Julie Foster, Randy and Patrick Nye, Stephanie Robinson, Kim York, Rick Zajac, Bobbie and Eddie Ouellette, and Jackie Keene. Donnie worked at the Eastland Woolen Mill from school graduation to its closure where he was Superintendent of dyeing. He then continued to work at Robinson's Textile, and then for Uniship Courier Service until retirement. Donald was an avid basketball fan who loved to watch his daughters play from the time they were young until they graduated college. He never missed one of his grandkids games and had a strong passion for watching them play. He also enjoyed watching all the area children play a variety of sports over the years and was known to show up at many different sporting events. Beginning as a boy of 5 years, Don worked for Ken Veazie, a local dairy farmer. Upon his retirement, he would have to find a really big reason to miss his morning drive to the Veazieland Farm and to Thunder Road Farm to see his friends. He was loved by many and will be missed so much. He leaves us now to watch basketball games from the heavens and to join his granddogs, Duncan and Max, whom he was predeceased by. A celebration of life will be held February 13, 2022 at the Corinna American Legion Hall from 12-2pm. All are welcome.
