Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Donna L Sawyer announce that she passed peacefully on Sunday, March 9th, 2025, surrounded by family. Donna was born February 23, 1940, in Hartland, ME, to Clyde L. Watson and Edna M. (Chapman) Watson. Donna was a dedicated employee at Dexter Shoe for over 30 years, beginning as a switchboard operator at their first plant, and retiring as Assistant Comptroller. After "retirement" she went on to work at Northeast Occupational Exchange and then as the Cambridge Town Clerk. Donna was deeply engaged in her community, offering her assistance to those in need at every opportunity. She was a founding member of the Harmony Ambulance crew and later took on the role of treasurer after her active service as an EMT. The Cambridge Baptist Church and the beloved church family played a significant role in her life. In recognition of her extensive volunteer efforts in various roles for the town of Cambridge, she was honored with a Spirit of America Foundation award. Donna maintained a close relationship with her family, always remembering birthdays and showing up for all the big moments. Donna also enjoyed traveling and adventuring with her friends throughout the years. Donna loved the coast of Maine and would make a special trip each summer to see the ocean. When anyone, friend or family, stopped by the house on the hill overlooking the town she loved, they knew they would receive a warm welcome and a hot cup of coffee. Donna was predeceased by her parents, and her siblings, Stanley & (Iva) Watson of Skowhegan, ME, Ruth & (Webster) Baird of Hartland, ME, and Ronald & (Beverly) Watson of Cambridge, ME, with whom she shared a home for many years. She was also predeceased by her only child, Tony Watson, of Cambridge, ME. Donna is survived by her "pride and joy", her granddaughter, Kaitlyn, and husband Chase Bouton of Guilford, ME, as well as several special nieces and nephews, including Rhonda (Watson) Taylor of Freeport, ME, and Clyde Watson of Merrimack, NH. A gathering in her memory will be held at the Cambridge Town Hall on Saturday, March 22nd at 1pm. A graveside burial will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor may be made to the Harmony Ambulance or the Cambridge Baptist Church.
