NEWPORT - Donovan Michael Kurt, 19, gained his angel wings on November 3, 2022 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He battled a brave fight and was a true warrior, never letting it break his spirit. He was born on February 3, 2003 in Bangor, a son of Michael and Trisha (Stevens) Kurt. Donovan graduated from Nokomis Regional High in 2021 where he was a three-sport athlete, enjoying basketball, track and soccer. He was awarded Athlete of the Year in 2021. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club and the Future Business Leaders of America. He also played for Central Maine United, a premier soccer club in which he loved his teammates, coaches and had many opportunities, including playing in Italy. Donovan also enjoyed playing disc golf in his free time. It had become a hobby that he truly enjoyed. Donovan loved sports and in particular loved the Philadelphia Eagles. He also was an avid fan of the Maine United Basketball Team. He was currently attending Norwich University in Vermont pursuing his dream of becoming an architect. He is survived by his parents Michael and Trisha Kurt and brother Braden Kurt all of Newport; maternal grandparents Charles and Gail Stevens of Corinna; aunts Amie Descheneaux and husband Ernie of CT, Penny Townsend and husband Derek of Newport, and Stacey Donaldson and husband Rick of Etna; cousins Brianna and Dawson Townsend of Newport, Matt Thornton of Scarborough, Brendan Donaldson of Plymouth, Damian Donaldson of Westbrook and Abigail Pelkey of Plymouth; as well as his special friends Ryan Bell, Lindsay Cote and Rachel Wilcox. He was predeceased by paternal grandparents Curtis and Sylvia Kurt of Palmyra. Friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday, November 7, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Tuesday, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, with the Rev. Stan Griffin officiating. Burial will be in the North Newport Cemetery.
