DEXTER - Earl Maurice Richard, 93, passed away February 13, 2019, at the Sandy River Nursing Home in Farmington where he resided for the past two years. He was born August 6, 1925, in Dexter, a son of John B. and Marian Marie (Goulette) Richard.
Earl grew up in Dexter with his siblings, Arabelle and Kenneth, who are predeceased. He later met his wife, Mildred (Quirion), of 64 years, who predeceased him on January 23, 2014. Together they raised five children: son, Robert Richard (wife Pam, predeceased on October 2015) and grandsons, Jonathan and David, of North Reading, MA; daughter, Kathy Richard Pierce (husband David), of Farmington; son, Kevin Richard (wife Rhonda) of Tampa, FL.; son, Michael Richard (partner, Peter Gibson) of Waban, MA; and daughter, Mary Richard Bowen (husband Scott) of Exeter; and grandchildren, Benjamin Taylor (wife Meredith and great-grandson, Weston) of St. Albans; Erin Taylor of Denver, CO; and Kirstin Taylor of St. Albans.
Earl served in the Navy during WWII, sailing on merchant marine ships carrying cargo overseas. He worked a number of jobs, including being an oil truck driver for Whitney's Citgo for over 28 years, but his real passion was for horse racing. He was a trainer, driver and owner of many harness racing horses over several decades, which brought him to many tracks and winner's circles in Maine and along the eastern seaboard. He was a communicant of St. Anne's Church in Dexter and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 A.M. Monday, April 29th, at St. Anne's Church, Dexter, with the Rev. Father Rob Lupo officiating. Visiting hours will be held prior to the Mass from 9-10 a.m. at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
