ZEPHYRHILLS, FL & NEWPORT, ME- Elaine Luce Leadbetter a resident of Zephyrhills, Florida and a summer resident of Newport passed away on December 19th, 2024. Elaine was born September 21st,1926 in Greenville Junction, the daughter of Dr. Carlton and Gladys (Walton) Luce.
Elaine graduated from Greenville High School class of 1944. She attended Northern Conservatory of Music and completed her education at University of Maine, Orono where she received a B.S in music Education. She taught school in Lee, Lubec, Rockland, Pittsfield and S.A.D #48 (Newport).
While teaching in Rockland, she met and married her husband, George, who was attending the University of Maine, Orono.
Elaine was a member of Peoples United Methodist Church of Newport where she was choir director for many years. She was also a member of the Maine State Retired Teachers Association and the National Educators Association. She was a former member of Sebasticook Garden Club and Order of the Eastern Star in Greenville.
After retirement she and George traveled to and became residents of Florida. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing the piano, reading, and walking.
Elaine is predeceased by her loving husband George, and their son Peter, as well as her parents, a sister Dorothy, and a brother Charles. Elaine is survived by her son Mark and his wife Ellen, and her daughter in law Joan all of Newport. Four grandchildren, Daniel Leadbetter and partner Mary Louise, Andrea and Robert Gerry, Emma and Kevin Ridley of Colorado, John and Caitlin Leadbetter of Manhattan; Ten great- grandchildren, Isiah, Samantha, Faye, Rebekah, Hannah, Ethan, Eloise, Eliza, Leo, and David. Two great-great grandchildren Lakynn and Timber, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
