Obituary

ST. ALBANS- Ellen Louise Lessor, 80, passed away peacefully at home in St. Albans, Maine on June 3rd, 2024. Ellen was born on July 24th, 1943, in Newport, Maine to Pearl and Adeline (Booth) Cook. She went to school locally and continued to live and work in Newport for almost all of her life. She worked in the Hannaford deli, sewed shoes at home for Dexter Shoe, as a home healthcare aide, residential cleaner, and bought and sold items at yard sales. For twenty years, she worked at Jon's Redemption on Main Street in Newport, where she was a welcoming and friendly face to everyone who came in. She was also a homemaker for her family, and a frequent caretaker of her grandchildren, all of whom loved her greatly. Ellen enjoyed sitting outside in the sun, playing cards, including cribbage and Uno, playing bingo, telling stories about her life, singing, and dancing. She was an avid bowler, taking part in the Can-Am many times, earning the Women's Lane High Single in Pittsfield Bowling Center, as well as winning the Maine State Championship. Most of all, she loved her Southern Comfort whiskey. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Brown of St. Albans; her son, Jon Lessor and his wife Tavia Lessor of Newport; two granddaughters, Mercedes Brown and Emily Lessor; a sister, Rita Braley and her husband Harlan "Homer" Braley of Augusta; and many special nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Eugene "Pete" Lessor; her parents; siblings Calvin Buzzell, Betty O'Farrell, May Purvis, and David Cook; and son-in-law Todd Brown.
