DIXMONT - Elton Richard Erskine, 89, passed away on May 26, 2019. He was born August 11, 1929 in Dixmont a son of William and Lavon (Edminister) Erskine. He served in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He was a lifelong resident of Dixmont and owned a logging business. He loved snowmobiling, cribbage, hunting, fishing, camping and bluegrass festivals. Although he retired his "lumber jack" title in 1991, his love of the woods led to his woodworking hobby. He was the first president of the Dixmont Gold Crest Riders Snowmobile Club, and continued as its president for many years. He was also awarded the 2002 M. S. A. Trail Groomer of the Year award.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon (Mitchell) Steele Erskine of 15 years; children, Donna Furrow, Mary and husband Terry Lemieux, Richard and wife Gaye Erskine, Linda Erskine, Mark and wife Chrissy Erskine; step children and spouses, Helen and Joe Mazur, Kate and Andrew Stevens and Annie and Demetrio Duran; brothers, James and wife Lorraine Erskine and Robert Erskine; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, Betty (Bird) Erskine; brothers, Lawrence and Roger; and sisters, Eunice Norris, Esther Winship, and Pauline Erskine.

Graveside committal services will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, June 3rd, at Dixmont Corner Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the New England Old English Sheepdog Rescue, Inc., 49 Stonehedge Road, Lincoln, MA 01773. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
