NEWPORT - Evangeline R. Matijczyk, 94, died May 1, 2020 in the old farm house where she was born on November 10, 1925. She was the daughter of Wilbur and Leona (Brooks) Gray. She married Max on December 1, 1945 and they were married for 62 years.
Evangeline graduated from Newport High School in 1943, the University of Maine in 1947 (BS degree), and Colby College in 1967 (MST degree). She taught high school in Harmony High, Limington Academy, Hartland Academy and Marshwood High School. After retirement she enjoyed working with her "Maxie" to garden, work and walk in the woods, and renovate the farm. They also worked on reopening the North Newport Christian Church. They were members of the Corinna United Methodist Church and the Corinna Post# 73 American Legion.
She is survived by her son Max and wife Yvonne of Reed City, MI; daughter Marie and husband Malcolm Hartsgrove of Newport; grandchildren, Katrina Matijczyk and significant other Ian Catalano of Kirkville, NY, Matthew Matijczyk of Point Arena, CA, and Jason Matijczyk and wife Annette (sons Max J. and Gage) of Thayne, WY; step grandsons, Craig and wife Jennifer Hartsgrove (Makayla, Hunter and Bryten) of Patten, Scott and wife Kendra Hartsgrove (Spencer, Zachary and Grady) of Newport, Ryan and wife Deanne Wizner (Max P.) of Howell, MI; adopted granddaughter Jackie Clark, and a special sister in law Helen Matijczyk of Hartford, CT. She is also survived by nieces, Karen Gray, and Jacqueline Stein, nephew Earl Gray and several cousins.
In addition to her loving husband Max in 2007, she was predeceased by a sister Evie Tasker and brother Leon Gray; many nieces , nephews and cousins.
