Frances M. (DeBeck) Cookson

NEWPORT – Frances “Fran” (DeBeck) Cookson, 91, passed away on February 14, 2024 after a long illness. She was born in Orrington, a daughter of George and Clara (Grouse) DeBeck. She graduated from Newport High School and was a long time member of High Street Church, where she sang in the choir in her younger years. Later in life, she attended the People’s United Methodist Church, both of Newport.

Frances is survived by her daughters, Brenda O’Brien and husband James, Jo-Ann Cookson, Sue-Ann Cole and husband Scott; her son Ronald Cookson and wife Louise; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Sidney Cookson; son Barry Cookson; daughter Catherine Cookson; brothers, Charles and Ike DeBeck; granddaughter Helen Cole; grandson James O’Brien, Jr.; and great granddaughter Alyssa Cole.

A memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. Friday, April 26th, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating.
