NEWPORT – George Allen Francis Jr., 75, died on March 12, 2023, at Eastside Center for Health & Rehabilitation after a long illness. George was born in Bangor, on October 1, 1947, to George Allen Francis, Sr. and Ruth Mayhew Murphy. George grew up in Bangor. When he graduated from high school, he went into the Army and did 2 years including a year in Vietnam. When he returned to Maine, he married Vernette Mudgett and they had a daughter Paula Francis. George is survived by his mother Ruth Murphy of Newport; his daughter Paula Francis Thody, her husband Chris Thody; his granddaughters Patricia Thody, Rebekah Thody, and Makayla Thody, all of Athens; his sisters Sharlene Hill and husband Samuel Hill, Sr. of West Gardiner, Dr. Lauren Mayhew of Biddeford, and Darlene Chadbourne of Palmyra; his nephews and nieces, Samuel Hill, Jr, Bryan Fanjoy, Amanda Fanjoy, Eliza Kelsey, Shane Hill, Laurie Foustoukos, Nate Chadbourne and their families; and by his ex-wife, Vernette Mudgett Morton. His Family would like to thank the hospital staff that cared for him at St. Joseph Hospital and at Eastside Center for Health & Rehabilitation. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal in Newport. Interment will be held later in the spring with a family gathering immediately afterwards.
