Obituary

Harold "Slugger" Condon PALMYRA – Harold W. Condon, 93, passed away peacefully October 1, 2023 with his family by his side at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born May 31, 1930 in Corinna, a son of Will and Helen (Libby) Condon. He was educated in Palmyra and Newport schools graduating from Newport High School, Class of 1947. He joined the Navy after graduation serving aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge. After discharge he attended Coyne Electrical School and became a Master electrician, starting his own business and holding his license right to the end. Harold is survived by his 3 children and their spouses, Bill and Fawn of Corinna, Carol and Larry Poulin of Florida and Evie and Dan Bowman of Newport; 6 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rita (Pion) and his second wife, Ruth (McAllister). He was the last surviving sibling of eight children. Friends may call from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. A Masonic service will be conducted at 6 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, October 5th, with Pastor Alice Mello officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at the Palmyra Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in support of the Harold and Ruth Condon Scholarship Fund, c/o Evelyn Bowman, 601 Moosehead Trail, Newport, ME 04953.
