Obituary

NEWPORT & OSTEEN, FLORIDA- Helena "Lena" Pray, 97, passed away October 2, 2022 in Belfast. She was born September 17, 1925 in Greenville to Eugene and Goldena (Collins) Murray. Helena married Frank O. Pray on September 24, 1946. For a number of years, Lena was employed at Guilford Industries in Newport and the Edwards Company in Pittsfield. She and her husband became self employed as the owners of Pray's Gulf Station and Pray's Motel in Newport, along with several other entrepreneurial entities within their businesses. Lena was a member of the People's United Methodist Church in Newport. She retired in 1988 at which time she and her husband spent nearly 40 years traveling between their summer home on the lake in Newport and their winter home at Kove Estates in Osteen, Florida. For decades, Lena and Frank would host the annual 4th of July "Pray's Open" golf tournament at the Sebasticook Golf Club in Newport followed by a cookout gathering for all involved. In Osteen, Lena served on many committees with the retirement community and especially loved her involvement with the golf course and various ladies' activities. Lena especially loved playing cards with her friends and family members. In the later stage of her life, Lena resided at "The Residence at Tall Pines" where she quickly made many friends and became well known for her bingo and card playing prowess. Lena is survived by her three children: Frank, Jr. and wife Kathy, daughter Cheryl and husband Donald King, all of Newport, and son Charles and mate Janet Weaver of Belfast; along with 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by dozens of special friends from Newport and Osteen, including Paul and Jesse Leonard and the Vining family. In addition to her husband of 67 years, Lena was predeceased by 2 brothers James and Charles Murray. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M Tuesday, October 11th at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Newport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Meridian Splendor Lodge # 49 Building Fund, P.O. Box 152, Newport, ME 04953.
