STETSON – Janet (DeWitt) Leighton, 81, died October 13, 2023 at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born January 26, 1942 in Bangor, a daughter of Curtis and Lena (Cochrane) DeWitt. She attended Newport High School. She and her husband co-owned Leightons' Bus Service in Stetson. Janet also served as a Selectperson, a past member of the Stetson Parks and Recreation Committee and was a founding member of the Stetson Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach. Janet is survived by her husband, Charles E. Leighton; and three sons, Dwane, Jeffrey, Michael and wife Melinda, all of Stetson; a brother George and wife Linda DeWitt of Waterboro; 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Janet also had many loving friends in Stetson. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 28th, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport.
