NEWPORT- Keith Wilton Thompson went to meet his Lord and Savior on May 5th, 2024. Keith was born May 26th,1940 to Kenneth and June (Orcutt) Thompson. He graduated from Newport High School in 1958. Keith served in the Army from 1960-1963, mostly stationed in Alaska, he returned home to Newport and married Maxine Burnham on May 11th,1963. They were blessed with two children, Darrell and Laurie Ann.
Keith was employed by Edward's Co. of Pittsfield for 38 years, where his last position was Warehouse Manager, after this, he worked for American Eagle Airlines for 10 years. Keith was self employed as "Mr. Fix it", and most recently worked at Irish Auto Body of Detroit, ME as a part time employee, where he also enjoyed chatting with the boys. Keith could often be found helping neighbors, friends, and family with odd jobs.
As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, camping, four wheeling, and riding his scooter. Keith volunteered as a firefighter, assisted with cub scouts, and coached little league. Most recently, he served as chaplain for the Barrows Skidgel American Legion Post 105 of Newport, as well as a greeter/usher at Corner Stone Baptist Church in Exeter.
Keith was pre-deceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maxine; His son Darrell and wife Faith of Houlton; his daughter Laurie Ann and husband Kelly of Bangor; 3 grandchildren, Brian Thompson of South Carolina, Katie Thompson of Texas, and Lindsay Diehl of Bangor; 3 brothers, Milton of Newport, Kenny of Arkansas, and Kendall of Dixmont; his sister Linda Leonard of Newport. The family appreciates and would like to express their thanks to the Gilley's of Newport for their generosity and kindness, they are considered a part of our chosen family. Also, special thanks to Beacon Hospice staff for the care they provided.
A celebration of life will take place on May 19th at 3pm at Corner Stone Baptist Church of Exeter. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Good News Club. Gifts can be sent to Crosby & Neal Funeral Home of Newport or Corner Stone Baptist Church of Exeter.
