NEWPORT--Laurence "Skip" Llewellyn Ryder, 78, died October 9, 2018 at a Bangor hospital. He was born February 17, 1940 in Presque Isle, a son of Llewellyn and Ruth (Goodine) Ryder. He served in the U. S. Air Force. Laurence was employed for many years as a manager for Guilford Industries and after retirement he worked as a security guard at the Bangor Mall.
He was a member of the Maine Harness Racing Association and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his longtime loving companion Nancy Strayer of Newport; 2 sons, Steven Ryder of Montana and Kevin Ryder of Fairfield; a daughter, Linda and husband Chip Hichborn of Rome; 3 brothers, Llewellyn Ryder, Gerald Ryder and Fred and wife Lisa Pollard, all of Clinton; 2 sisters, Sandra Pollard of Waterville and Gail and husband Jim Henry of Burnham; 2 grandchildren, Kelsey Clark and Trinity Ryder; step children, Lana Leighton of Etna, Lee Hebert and Lisa Hebert both of Waterville. his extended family, Catherine and husband Eddie Knight of Lubec, Susan and husband Jim Hynson of Pittston, Ethel Mahany and Dorothy Henry, both of Frankfort, Lori and husband Randy Bergeron of Boston, MA, Lisa and husband Tim Tracy of Bangor, Sam and wife Becky Strayer of Hermon, and Jamie and Tim Strayer of Bangor.
Graveside committal services with military honors will be held 3 P. M. Friday, October 12th at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, with the Rev. Garnett Chute officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
