Obituary

CORINNA--Malcolm "Red" Batchelder, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2023, at EMMC after a brief illness. Malcolm was born in Exeter, Maine, on September 12, 1941, and was the son, of Dennis and Geraldine (French) Batchelder. Malcolm attended Corinna Union Academy and graduated from East Corinth Academy in 1961. He worked for several years at Dexter Shoe and later for 32 years as a driver for UPS where he retired. Malcolm served in the Maine Air National Air Guard as a cook for 6 years. He also spent many years as a volunteer firefighter for the Corinna Fire Dept. Malcolm spent his summers on Moosehead Lake at his camp in Lily Bay where his favorite activity was fishing from his beloved boat "The Lily Bay Red". In the fall, he enjoyed spending his time with family and friends at his hunting lodge on French's Stream and chasing the big whitetails. He also loved gardening and his garden was the talk of the town. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy of 41 years; and his children, Gavin and wife, Sonia, of Glenburn; his daughter, Lisa Sawyer and husband, Bill, of Newport; and his son, Daren and wife, Elma, of Dubai; his sister, Dennise Poulin and husband, Yves, of Exeter; his brother-in-law, Danny Hill and wife, Sandra, of Corinna; as well as his grandchildren, Hannah and Abby Batchelder of Glenburn, Uriel Batchelder of Dubai, Billy Sawyer of Newport, and Katie Sawyer of Hermon; and his beloved granddog, Sunny. He is also survived by special nieces and nephews, Mclean and Nancy Poulin, Gabe and Wanda Poulin, and Pam and Lyndon Hopkins; along with his special great-niece and great-nephew, Rick Hopkins and Nikki Hopkins. At Malcolm's request, family services will be private. Donations in his name may be made to the Corinna Fire Department.
