NEWPORT - Maria Ann Doody, 83, died October 5, 2018 at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born March 3, 1935 in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada, a daughter of Hughes and Theresa (Carroll) Gillespie. She retired from Gilman Electric in Newport in 1992 and was a communicant of St. Agnes Parish.

Maria is survived by 3 sons, Peter and wife Sue of Scarborough, Kevin and husband Jerry of Plymouth, Ricky and wife Barb of North Carolina; 3 daughters, Darlene of Bangor, Carol and husband Gene of Newport, Sue and husband Tom of South Carolina; 2 sisters, Eloine Devou of Houlton, and Madelon Martins of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Delmar on November 18, 2011; and 3 brothers, Daryl, Edmund and Burton Gillespie.

A funeral in lieu of Mass will be celebrated 11 A.M., Wednesday, October 10th, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Fr. Rob Lupo officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newport. Donations in Maria's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
