EXETER-Marion Jeanette Bennett, 91, stepped from this life to the next on May 24, 2023. She was the eldest daughter of Charles E. and Etta M. (Henderson) Matteson. She was born December 16, 1931 on the family farm in Exeter. A true farm girl, she was as comfortable working in the fields with Dad and her brothers as in the kitchen with Mom. Regardless of the task, she was always a hard worker.
During her time working at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, she caught the eye of a certain young man and Wendell eventually convinced her to take his ring. They were wed on her birthday in 1960 and spent the next 60 years together until his passing on May 7, 2021. They enjoyed travel and camping. They spent vacation time visiting many states from Washington to Florida and much of Canada as well. They were long-time members of the Exeter Full Gospel Church.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Lewis, Kenneth, and Gene Matteson and by her baby sister Jeanette Black. The family is finally together again.
Mammy, as she was affectionately known to many friends and family, is survived by many sisters and brothers-in-law and even more nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 P. M., Wednesday, May 31st at the Exeter Full Gospel Church with the Reverend Chris Faloon officiating. Friends may call from 1 P. M. until the time of the service. The burial will follow at the Chamberlain Cemetery, Exeter. Memorial donations may be made to the Exeter Full Gospel Church, P. O. Box 24, Exeter, ME 04435.
