Mellen Alvin Randall II "Mell" died December 26, 2020 at his home in Ripley, on land that has been in the Randall family since 1804.

As a young man Mell became a game warden, a career that lasted for 25 years with districts in Blue Hill, Calais, Turner, and Dexter. He retired from the warden service in 1976. At the age of 59, he started a career selling real estate as a licensed broker in Florida and in Dexter. He was a great storyteller with an incredible memory, and had many passions such as grafting heirloom varieties of apple trees up to the orchard on Fush Hill, researching genealogy and local history, as well as tying flies with hopes of going fishing with his boys.
He was involved in his community as a 32nd degree Master Mason, a member of both the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Anah Temple Shrine. He was a past master of the Ripley Grange, and served his community both as a selectman, and as chairman of the Ripley planning board. He was a dedicated member of the Ripley United Methodist Church, and the Ripley Historical Society.
Mell had many interests and talents as an outdoorsman, and a "MacGyver", but most of all as a good man. He helped many and held hope close for those he cared for. His legacy is everywhere, in the many people who treasure cherished memories of him, his adventures, and his kindness.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer at a time to be announced. Mell chose the Ripley United Methodist Church and The Ripley Historical Society as organizations for those who wish to contribute in his memory.
