Michael C. Harrington, Sr.

BELGRADE – Michael C. Harrington, Sr., 73, passed away on August 3, 2026, following a brief illness. He was born on January 23, 1953, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Clayton Harrington and Janice (Burton) Harrington McAllister.

Known to many simply as "Sr.," Michael dedicated his life to serving others through an extraordinary career that spanned more than 50 years in law enforcement, investigations, and security. His distinguished career included serving as a Police Chief and Regional Commander with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency before becoming Co-Owner and President of Merrill's Investigations & Security Services. Throughout his professional life, he was known for his integrity, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to protecting others, earning the admiration and respect of colleagues throughout Maine and beyond.

Although he had stepped back from the day-to-day operations of the business in recent years to enjoy a well-earned retirement, Sr.'s influence never diminished. His wisdom, mentorship, and high standards continued to guide the organization he helped build. Today, his legacy lives on in the professionalism, integrity, and dedication that remain the cornerstone of Merrill's Investigations & Security Services.

Beyond his career, Michael was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor, and friend. He cherished the relationships he built throughout his life and was grateful for the many friendships forged through his years of public service. Those who had the privilege of working alongside him or calling him a friend will remember his quiet strength, fairness, and willingness to help others.

His family is deeply grateful for the many expressions of kindness, support, and sympathy extended during this difficult time. As they honor his life and legacy, they remain committed to carrying forward the values of excellence, integrity, and service that he exemplified.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Holly Harrington; his four children, Janiece Hanning, Michael Harrington, Jr. and his wife, Tracy, Cassandra Proctor, and Lily McFadden; his granddaughter, Raegan Harrington; and his two brothers, Steven Harrington and Brad McAllister.

He was predeceased by his father, Clayton Harrington; his mother and stepfather, Janice and Erwin McAllister; and his two brothers, Chris Harrington and Alvin McAllister.

Private burial services will be held at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
