Obituary

PLYMOUTH - Reverend Paul Walker Floyd, 91, passed from this earthly life April 1, 2023 in Hallowell. He was born in Carthage, Mississippi on April 25, 1931 to the Reverends C.C. and Thelma (Walker) Floyd. His youth was spent in Mississippi and Louisiana. In 1948, Paul graduated from Manghum High School (Manghum, Louisiana) where he played on the varsity basketball team. Paul was voted "Most Handsome" of his senior class. He sang regularly on the radio in a gospel trio and continued ministering in song with his wife, Dorothy. In the summer of 1950, Paul traveled to Maine as a Lee College (Cleveland, Tennessee) student to minister in the Church of God. While ministering in Augusta, he met Dorothy, who he married after one date and the approval of a judge. Their loving marriage endured seventy-two years and nine months. Paul pastored churches in Unionville, Mattawamkeag, Buzzards Bay (MA), Pittsfield, and Medway. He supported his family as a carpenter, cabinet maker, and builder. He finally built his own home in Plymouth after retiring from the ministry. Neighbors, Jo-Ann and Milton Turner, were instrumental in making it possible. Paul was very conscious of being thrifty, saying "I have more time than money." Paul was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Tommie Adams and Evelyn Adams; son, Paul W. Floyd, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Maci Floyd, Abel Floyd, and Theron Bishop. Paul is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy (Faunce) Floyd; children, James E. Floyd (Delbert), Thomas N. Floyd (Betty), Marion L. Emerson (Art), Jonathan D. Floyd (Stephanie), Peter F. Floyd, and Nita L. Daigle (Chris); two sisters, Elloree Hill and Rachel Miller; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his closest nephew, Reggie (Joanne) Adams and by a brother-in-law, David Faunce (Sharon). The family expresses special thanks to Woodlands Senior Living of Hallowell and Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice. Woodlands and their staff willingly made accommodations to provide care for Paul and Dorothy. Their kindness and efforts allowed Paul and Dorothy to remain together during Hospice care. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, May 6 at the Newport Church of God in Newport, with Reverend Reggie Adams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Theron Bishop Track Scholarship Fund. Payable to: Pearl Ed Foundation: P.O.
