Obituary

Philip "Phil" Theriault DEXTER- Phil Theriault, 82, died peacefully August 15, 2023 at his Maple Street home after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Phil was born July 2, 1941 in Madawaska, as Harold Louis Philippe Theriault to Valier and Jeanne (Albert) Theriault, grew up in Pittsfield, and graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1959. He met his love, Carolyn and married on June 17, 1961 and shared 54 wonderful years of marriage and adventures. Phil was a hard worker and owned Philroy Construction until his retirement. He later started Gray Barn Antiques with Carolyn, which took them to Florida and around New England for many years, always returning with hilarious stories. Phil was many things to many people; loving husband, wonderful father, dedicated "Papa" and was happy to know that in January 2024 would have been a great grandfather to two new Theriaults. Many called him a friend. He was a mentor to many young men over the years. He was a talented artist and a problem solver, but mostly he was a fun-loving man that was always ready for a fishing trip, hunting trip, social gathering and proud fan at his children's and grandchildren's many events. Phil and Carolyn suffered the tragic loss of their only son, Christopher on March 27, 1986. Phil lost his Carolyn on July 7, 2015. He was also predeceased by his parents, many close friends and his son in law, David York. He is survived by his daughters, Debbie York of Dexter and Susan and son in law Jeff Warren of Oakland. "Papa" is also survived by five grandchildren: Dylan Tibbetts (Samantha) of Gardiner, Quinn Warren (Katie) of Oakland, Dalton Tibbetts of Pittston, Parker Tibbetts (Reghan) of Harmony and Emmy Warren (Sawyer) of Sanford; two sisters, Rena Hodgins (Roydan) of Detroit and Sharon (Patrick) Lee of Yarmouth. Phil is also survived by his companion, Lillie Ambrose of Dexter who took loving care of him. Phil was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church and a Knight of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, Phil asked that donations be made to the Memorial Scholarship established for Christopher. Their kindness will never be forgotten. Phil will be laid to rest at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in the family lot at 3:30 P.M. on August 27, 2023 with a celebration of life held after at Sunset Meadows at 4:30pm. Deacon David Denbow will be officiating.
