Obituary

NEWPORT - Richard Lloyd Malone, 84, died peacefully November 20, 2019 at his Newport residence. He was born July 2, 1935 in Brewer, a son of Herman and Erma (Royal) Malone. Richard's family moved from Brewer to Corinna when he was 8 - a move he appreciated because it meant he could finally have a dog. He worked on farms and in garages throughout school until he left during his senior year to join the U. S. Navy. Later, he worked at the woolen mill in Newport, Snowflake Canning Company in Corinna, and the tannery in Hartland, from where he retired in the 1990's. Richard was proud of his time in the Navy, enjoyed working in his garden, and loved to watch sports. He was a lifelong Bruins fan. He is survived by his daughters, Ann Malone of Lynn, MA and Patricia and husband John Bessey of Newport; 3 grandchildren, Amber, Erin and Conner Bessey of Newport; and a great grandson Trenton Brann. He is also survived by a longtime friend and neighbor Paul Vigue of Hartland; 3 stepsons, Kenny and David Rines and Tom Richardson, along with their families. He will be especially missed by his favorite granddogs, Shadow, Lulu and Skippy who visited every morning and evening. Richard was predeceased by his wife Anna (Chase) Malone, siblings Joan Richardson, Barbara, Edward, and Raymond Malone, and his second wife Alice (Brooks) Malone. No memorial or funeral will take place per his request. Any friends or family that wish to remember Richard may send a donation to the Somerset Humane Society in Skowhegan or to Spirit's Place cat shelter in St. Albans. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
