Obituary

GARLAND- Rita Anne (Doore) West, 72, died July 2nd, 2024, at Ross Manor Nursing Home in Bangor. She was born September 14th, 1951, in Dover Foxcroft, a daughter of Maurice and Beverly (Cobb) Doore of Garland. Rita was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Ronald Michael West, of 43 years. She was employed at Dexter Shoe Factory for more than 13 years and spent the remainder of her time as a homemaker prior to her retirement. Rita was well known for her strong faith in God and took comfort in knowing that one day she would be reunited with her husband once again, along with the family members that left this world before her. Rita adored her cat Puddles of 18 years; she loved quality time spent with family and friends at gatherings; day trips to the Maine coast as well as the northern Maine woods; and cheering on her favorite football team, the New England Patriots. Rita was genuinely patriotic and believed that Maine truly is "the way life should be." Rita is survived by her daughter Mary West and best friend Kelly Edson of Sangerville; Brother Michael Doore and wife Debbie of Garland; Sisters Brenda Doore and Amy Sue Doore of Garland; Sister-in-law Madelon and husband Jerry Dyki of New Britan, CT; Step-son Kenneth West and wife Angel of Bangor; granddaughter Nicole West; Her non-biological daughter of 35 years, Tabitha Robbins-Baker and husband Richard Baker of Exeter, who helped care for her at her home; her god grandchildren, Austin Robbins, Kyle Robbins, Colby Robbins, Jospeh Baker, Hollie Bracy, Isabella Baker and Alianna Baker. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as family friends. Rita is predeceased by her husband Ronald Michael West, and her brother Maxwell Doore of Garland. Services will be held at the Exeter Full Gospel Church, Sunday, July 14th at 2:30pm with a committal following at the West Garland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Maine at www.somaine.org or by mail to 525 Main St D, South Portland, ME 04106.
