NEWPORT- Robert Llewellyn Bean, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 20th, 2024, at the age of 72. A son of Lester and Roberta Bean, he was born in Dover-Foxcroft formally known as Foxcroft, on July 6th, 1952. Robert attended schools in the Hampden area, where he graduated from Hampden Academy in 1970. He met the love of his life Dorothy Gerrish, and they wed in 1971.
As a devoted veteran himself, Robert found it incredibly important to give back to his community, He served in the Airforce for two years, and served in the Air Guard for 20 years. After his service, he devoted a lot of his time to The Veteran's Home in Bangor, where he lit up everyone's day with his profound sense of humor and cribbage games.
Robert had many hobbies; he enjoyed any activity that involved the outdoors. He enjoyed tending to his apple trees, and gardening. Robert also had a love for antiques, he enjoyed going to antique auctions to see what treasure he could find. Robert was not a cook by nature, but he had a few special recipes he perfected, one of them being his famous baked beans. Most of all, Robert loved his family and friends, he had a smile and sense of humor that's infectious and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Robert is predeceased by his parents, his in-laws, Charles and Helen Gerrish, his brother Lester "Buddy" Bean, his brother's in-law; Raylan Brasslett, David Pennington, Ernie Gerrish Sr., Wes Gerrish Sr., Robert Gerrish Sr., nephews Kevin Gerrish, Wes Gerrish Jr., brother in-law James Tash, his nephew Bob Gerrish Jr. and nephew Jeremy Bean. As well as his furry companion Brandy.
Robert is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughters; Kelly Poulin and husband Mark, Suzette Hill and husband Alex, and Crystal Bean, and his son. His grandchildren who meant the world to him, Henry and Elias Bean, Garrett and Lucas Poulin, and Elliott, Caleb and Adam Hill. His sisters, Carlah Bishop and husband Wayne, Ruthena Brasslett, Myrna Martin and husband Junior, JoAnna Galkowski, Verna Hussey and husband Peter, his brother, Rodney Bean and wife Deanna, Brother in-law, Chuck Gerrish and wife Bev, sister's in-law, Chris, Irene, and Donna, and a very special sister in-law Helen Pennington, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins as well as his furry companion Abby. Visiting hours will be held at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home in Newport, August 24th from 3pm-6pm, a celebration of his life will be held August 31st 2-4pm at Central High School in East Corinth. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Maine Veterans Home at 44 Hogan Rd in Bangor.
