Plymouth - Robert "Bob" Linwood Burpee, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2024, at his home in Plymouth. He was born in Hartland, Maine, on May 28, 1943, to Harold R. Burpee and Leona A. (Emery) Burpee. He lived in St. Albans, until his family moved to Newport, where he attended Newport schools and graduated from Newport High School.
On July 3, 1968, he married Laurel M. (Gray) Burpee. They soon moved to Plymouth where they spent the rest of their married lives.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laurel "Lollie," of close to 56 years. He is also survived by his 3 children who were his pride and joy: Robert L. Burpee Jr. and his, wife, Susan, of Columbus, OH, John H. Burpee and his wife, Patricia, of Manchester, ME; and Jennifer Kelley and her husband, David, of Plymouth, ME. He also had 1 granddaughter and 3 grandsons as well as 2 great-grandchildren. Throughout his years he had many pets that were very dear to him, with the last one being his "little buddy," Jingles. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Leona; as well as brothers, David and Donald; and sister, Sandra.
Throughout his life he worked delivering propane for several Bangor fuel companies, where he met very many special people and maintained lifelong friendships. He was a member of the National Guard for many years. Upon retirement he enjoyed "making his morning rounds" in Plymouth and Newport, and spending time with friends, old and new. He was lucky enough to acquire many special friends throughout his lifetime that meant the world to him. Along with being a social butterfly, he enjoyed fishing and traveling, with Aruba being a special favorite. Every summer he was proud of his garden, always looking forward to his fresh cucumbers. He left his family and friends with wonderful memories and stories.
A memorial service will be held at Crosby & Neal in Newport, on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10 a.m. with a celebration of life to follow at the Plymouth Grange at 11:30 a.m. At the family's request in lieu of flowers, please plant a tree or make a donation to your favorite animal charity in Bob's name.
