NEWPORT - Robert (Bob) William Gipson passed away peacefully at his home in Newport, ME on April 4, 2021 at the age of 91. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Merlene (Lovley) Gipson. They were married at the Peoples Methodist Church, Newport, ME on September 11, 1953. He is lovingly remembered by his six children, Wanda Cyr of ME, Steve & Faye Gipson of CA, Sonia & Ray Garcia of TX, Michael Gipson of ME, Danny & Susan Gipson of MA and David & Michelle Gipson of MA, as well as multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren and many, many friends. Born in Newport, ME on November 12, 1929 to Howard Leslie Gipson and Alice Pauline Cochran, he was predeceased by one brother, Leroy Leeman Gipson. He attended Newport High School where he was a member of the football, basketball, baseball and bowling teams and participated in several clubs. He was also elected to the National Honor Society and served as Class Chaplain. After graduating from High School he enlisted in the Navy serving from 1948 thru 1952 and was a proud Korean War veteran. After military service, he worked many years as an electrician for Hoods and the IBEW, eventually earning his license as a Master Electrician and starting his own business. Throughout his life he always enjoyed hearing good jokes and retelling them over and over. He loved playing cards, watching high school basketball and old Westerns. He loved to fish as much as possible and even earned his airplane pilot's license. Having been born during the great depression he knew the value of hard work and instilled that in all his children.
We all love him dearly and he will be greatly missed. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
