Obituary

Hartland, ME — Ronald Paul Watson, lovingly known as ‘Patty’ or ‘Paddy’ by his family and best known as ‘Ronnie’ by his military and neighboring friends, passed away peacefully at home in Hartland, Maine, on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

He was born on October 6, 1934, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, to Stephen and Alice Watson.

He graduated from Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1954. Following graduation he enlisted in the military, serving 20 years in the US Army and US Navy. He is a highly decorated Veteran, receiving 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters with 9 Bronze Stars for his valor during the Vietnam War, and additional other awards. After returning home he worked at the Irving Tannery Hartland until his retirement.

Paddy was not one to carry on long conversations. But when he had a story to tell, you listened. His stories had a way of staying with you, often leaving you with a greater appreciation for the history, experiences and knowledge he carried with him. He had a quiet way about him, but there was always more beneath the surface.

He enjoyed collecting coins, following sports, watching old westerns, and, on occasion, engaging in a good political discussion. Paddy appreciated wit, a good heart and people who could make him laugh. Above all, he was a truly kind person who left an impression simply by being himself.

Paddy was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Alice Watson, and his brother, Leslie Dale Watson.

He leaves behind his sister, Jackie Watts of Point, Texas; nephews Wayne Watson and wife Melissa of Newport, Maine; Mark Watts and wife Lori, of Rockwall, Texas; nieces Beverly Phillips and husband Mark of Point, Texas; Cindy Bucher and husband Scott of Ft. Worth, Texas; along with many great-nieces, great- nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ron Holmes, his wife Joyce and the members of the Steeves-McCormick American Legion Post 141, Hartland, for the care, kindness, and friendship they gave Paddy. Their presence and support meant so much to him and to his family.

Paddy was one of a kind. He may not have always said much, but when he did, you remembered it. His quiet kindness, stories, humor and the history he carried with him will remain a part of the family for generations to come.

Rest easy, Paddy. You will be missed and always remembered.

Graveside services will be held on August 28th at 2pm at Starbird-Jordan Cemetery in Hartland, Maine. Family and friends are welcome to join us in remembering and honoring Paddy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Steeves-McCormick American Legion Post 141, Hartland, Maine.
