Tuesday, June 11, 2023, we said our final goodbyes to our dad, Ronald R. Watson, 82, of Cambridge who passed away peacefully with his sister and children at his side.
He was born May 3, 1942, in Hartland, Maine, the son of Clyde and Edna (Chapman) Watson. He attended Cambridge schools and graduated from Piscataquis Community High School.
Ronnie married his best friend and the love of his life Beverly Sherburne on June 7, 1968, in Dexter, Maine.
Over his working career he drove bus for Guilford School System, worked for Dexter Shoe Company with a brief time at R.J. Foley Boot Company and then back to Dexter Shoe where he held many positions over the years including, hand sewer working at home, working the maintenance dept. and in the machine shop. Also, during his later years, he and Bev delivered for the Rolling Thunder Express.
Ronnie was actively involved with the Town of Cambridge, serving 19 years as a Town Selectman and on the Planning Board for 3 years. Receiving Certificate of Recognition for public service to the Town of Cambridge in 2019.
For more than 60 years Ronnie was a very active member of the Masonic Lodge in Cambridge, Cambridge Lodge #157, holding several positions in the lodge including Worshipful Master multiple times. In addition to the local lodge, he was District Deputy Grand Master for District #22 twice. Ronald went up through the Scottish Rites and became a member of the Anah Shrine in 1986. Volunteering to serve at several fundraising events including the Shriner's Circus and was a member of the 2nd Section and Shriner's Belly Whistling team.
Ronnie and Bev enjoyed camping and going to various Shriner events over the years. They also enjoyed the time spent with family and friends camping as well. He was an avid hunter enjoying his time with family up to camp during hunting season.
He leaves his son Clyde Watson of Merrimack, NH, his daughter Rhonda Taylor and her husband Chris of Freeport; his sister Donna Sawyer of Cambridge; his grandchildren, Jonathan Watson and his wife Emily of MI, Ashley Taylor of CO, Thayne Watson of NH, Mariah Taylor of VT; and his three great-grandchildren of MI. He also leaves brother & sister in-laws, many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews as well as many friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clyde & Edna Watson, his sister L. Ruth Baird and her husband Webster, his brother Stanley Watson and his wife Iva Watson; his mother and father in-law and nephews, Timothy Baird, Tony and Michael Watson.
Graveside Service will be held June 29th, 2024, at 10:00am at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Cambridge, Maine.
