GARLAND & CAMDEN - Royce A. Butler, Sr., 83, passed away November 18, 2018 at the Sussman House in Rockport following a long bout with cancer.
He was born March 31, 1935 in Rockport, a son of George and Vic (Jackson) Butler. He graduated from Union High School and enlisted in the US Army, serving during the Korean War. After discharge he returned to Maine and worked here for a time. He then moved to Delaware and was a plant engineer for a company there for many years. Upon his retirement in 1997, he and his wife Connie returned to Maine and lived in the town of Garland. He was very adept at building and repairing things and enjoyed working on his home. His favorite toy was a large yellow Case tractor which he dubbed "Big Bird" after the yellow Sesame Street character. He and Connie also enjoyed visiting scenic wilderness places in Maine.
He is survived by his son, Royce A. Butler, Jr. and Royce, Jr.'s partner Karen Rackliff; his first wife Rose (Johnson) Thompson; sisters Mildred Goff and Ruth Leonard; brother Howard Butler; several nephews and nieces. Royce was predeceased by his second wife Connie.
A memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, November 24th at the People's United Methodist Church in Union with Pastor Elizabeth Bailey-Mitchell officiating. Spring graveside committal services will be held at the West Garland Cemetery in Garland. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Dexter.
