Samuel C.
Hands III
Stetson
Stetson, ME -- Samuel Hands was a man who brought laughter and energy wherever he went. He loved being the center of attention with his silliness, goofy antics, and jokes, but most of all, he loved people. He had a natural ability to make others laugh and feel comfortable and at ease. He never wanted to be the stiff shirt in the room—he wanted everyone to relax and enjoy themselves.
Sam was a strong, devoted, and committed father who took great pride in his family. He also shared a deep and lasting love with his wife, Ellen. Together, they built a very successful sign company from the ground up. Sam’s hard work, and charismatic personality made him especially good at working with people, and his ability to make customers feel welcome became an important part of the business they built together.
He took great pride in his home and property and loved working outdoors. Landscaping was a favorite pastime, particularly working with rocks and mulch and taking on projects that made his home and surroundings his own.
Sam loved to dance, especially with Ellen, the love of his life. Their love was a cherished part of his life and one that he carried with him always. Then there was his whistle. Everywhere he went he would effortlessly carry the most beautiful tune.
Sam will be remembered for his humor, his generous spirit, his love of family, and the joy he brought to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy not only in the business and home he helped build, but in the countless people who were made to smile simply by knowing him.
Samuel Hands was predeceased by his one true love, his wife, Ellen Hands; his son, Michael Hands; and his grandson, Gabriel Hands. He is survived by his children, Jody and husband William Freudenberger, Rebecca and husband Brad Underhill, Samuel and wife Julie Hands, Kathleen and husband Trevor Snow, Timothy Hands and husband Paul Jackson, Sara Hatch and partner Jason Emery, Noah and wife Adriena Hands; sister-in-law Lynne Geiselman; 28 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visiting Hours will be held at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main Street Newport, ME, on Sunday, August 30th from 1pm-4pm.
