Sandra (McEwen) Smith went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2025. She was born on July 14, 1938, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, to Austin and Mildred (Russell) McEwen. Sandra attended schools in Guilford and Newport.
She met the love of her life, Clyde "Buddy" Smith, while working at a restaurant called Mum's in Guilford. One day, Buddy knocked on the counter to get her attention and left her a 25-cent tip—an unforgettable moment that sparked a lifelong romance. The two were married on December 12, 1956, and spent the rest of their lives together in Exeter, where Sandra was a devoted homemaker.
Over the years, she also worked at Dexter Shoe, the Clyde Smith store, and occasionally on potato harvesters. Sandra was a longtime member of South Levant Baptist Church and was active in the Red Hat Society, the Exeter Snowmobile Club, and served as a leader of a local Boy Scout troop.
Sandra found great joy in outdoor activities. She especially loved snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and boating at the family camp on Boyd Lake, where many cherished memories were made with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Clyde; four brothers, James, Pete, Dermith, and Vincent; her sisters, Doris Nemer Diana (Patterson) Smallman; her son Kenneth; and a great-grandson, also named Kenneth.
Sandra is survived by her sons: Wayne, Keith, and Jeffery; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and a very special caretaker, Tammy Beem, and her husband Robert.
In keeping with Sandra's wishes, no public services will be held. a funeral service will take place at 2 PM on July 13 at The Old Exeter School. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to South Levant Baptist Church, Horseback Road, Levant, ME 04456.
