Plymouth - Shirley Malcolm Hopkins, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on October 9, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Born April 26, 1937, to Herbert and Evelyn (Harding) Malcolm, Shirley was one of 11 children. When she was 17 years old she met the love of her life, Leon Hopkins. They were married on July 23, 1955 and spent 66 wonderful years with each other. Together they created a loving home for their six children and proudly built the Hopkins Farm, which has since become a beloved gathering place for their large extended family. Shirley will always be remembered for her creativity and thoughtfulness. She loved her family dearly and always made sure everyone got a card and a phone call on their birthday. She loved ceramics, scrapbooking, and country music. She spent years devoted to her hometown of Plymouth, where she was a member of various committees. She also looked forward to the annual Hopkins Family Reunion, to which she dedicated countless hours to documenting and updating the family lineage. Shirley will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. She is fondly remembered by her loving husband Leon Hopkins, daughter Cathy Flye, son Fred Hopkins and his wife Jeannie, daughter Diane Ash and her husband P.D., and son Brad Hopkins. She was a caring and devoted grandmother to her 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, 10 siblings, two of her beloved children; Blaine Hopkins and Teri Melanson, and two of her dear grandchildren; Tyler Hopkins, and Jennifer Flye. Shirley was a beautiful person inside and out; her kindness and generosity will live on through all those she leaves behind. Graveside committal services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 15th, at the Sawyer Cemetery, Plymouth. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
