Obituary

St. Albans – Shizuko M. Humphrey, 92, passed away on March 31st, 2026, after a brief illness at Sebasticook Valley Hospital.

She was born November 9th, 1933, in Saitama, Japan to father Teijiro Matsumoto and mother Kana Tajima. Upon graduating from high school, she worked in a tailor’s shop.

Shizuko (Sue) came to the United States in 1955 as a war bride with her baby girl. When she was able, she worked at Hartland Canning Factory, Edwards in Pittsfield and finally for many years as a fancy stitcher at Dexter Shoe. While in her 50s, she obtained her driver’s license and became a U.S. citizen. Both of which she was extremely proud of. She loved Maine and the outdoors. You would often find her “cutting” grass or tending her many flower gardens.

Shizuko’s greatest joy and love was her family and friends. She was so amazed she reached 92 and had great and great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Justin and her parents, brother and sister in Japan.

Shizuko is survived by daughter Susan and husband Gary Smith, St. Albans; son Richard and Wife Sally Wyman Laconia, NH; grandchildren: Danielle and husband Steve LaPointe, Trevor Goforth, Benjamin Wyman, Nicholas and wife Roxana Wyman, Ryan and Darrin Smith; great-grandchildren: Bobby Foster and fiancé Alexis Hodgdon, Lindsy Smith and fiancé Brad Moore, Kylie Smith, Bailey and Aubrey Goforth; great-great-grandchildren: Riley and Bentley Moore and Robby Foster; as well as many close friends, who were like family.

We will miss our cherished “GG” every day, the head of our family, our strength and our guiding star. She is now resting peacefully with her love – Justin.

Burial will be at a later date for Shizuko and Justin at Crocker Cemetery in St. Albans. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport, Maine.
