EXETER – Stephen C. Colbath, 77, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024 after a brief illness at Togus VA Medical Center. Stephen was born in Waltham, MA on October 29, 1946 the son of Milford "Rip" Colbath.
He was raised in Exeter and graduated from East Corinth Academy, Class of 1966. After high school, Stephen joined the Army where he served two tours in Vietnam with the 14th Combat Engineer Battalion. After his service, Stephen married Linda (Brown) in 1970 and they settled in Exeter to raise their son, Shawn. Stephen worked for many years as a union pipefitter and welder with Local 321.
Stephen was a lifetime outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising a garden. His family holds dear their memories of him playing his guitar and singing. Stephen also loved to travel the open road on his motorcycle and spent many days touring the country with Linda, on solo journeys, or with groups of friends.
Stephen was the Past Commander of the American Legion, Post 73 in Corinna; 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry; Past Master of Pacific Lodge 64 in Exeter; Anah Shrine member; as well as a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 17-2. Stephen also served as a Selectman for the Town of Exeter for many years.
Stephen is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda (Brown) Colbath; son, Shawn S. Colbath and wife Stormy; grandchildren, Garrett S. Colbath and wife Katie and Cody Clark and wife Klarizza; great grandchildren, Madelynn, Miley, Roscoe and Eloise; siblings, Gayle Wright and husband Greg, Milford "Spike" Colbath, Jr. and wife Annie, and Judy Schissler and husband Enos; and many dear nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by his father; mother, Miriam Colbath; very special aunt, Hazel "Neen" Kelley; sister, Jennifer Ryder Holt; and niece Lisa Cron.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm, Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Crowell Cemetery, Cider Hill Road, Exeter where the American Legion, Masons and US Army will take part in celebrating and honoring Stephen's life. Following services, a reception will be held at the American Legion, 47 Maple Street, Corinna.
