Obituary

PALMYRA & HARTLAND-- PFC Tyler M. Springmann, 19, died July 17, 2011 in Kandahar provice, Afghanistan. He was born March 26, 1992 in Rockville, CT, the son of Robert Springmann and Tina Stratton. He graduated from Nokomis Regional High, Class of 2010. Tyler enjoyed woodworking and all aspects of carpentry. An avid outdoorsman, he was an accomplished marksman and hunter. He also loved snowmobiling and skate boarding.

PFC Springmann joined the U. S. Army on June 21, 2010 and took basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was assigned to the 25th Striker Brigade located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Tyler deployed with his unit to Kandahar province, Afghanistan on May 4, 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. PFC Springmann's awards include the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Combat and Special Skill Badge, and Basic Marksmanship Qualification Expert.

He is survived by his wife, Brittany Springmann of Palmyra; his father Army Staff Sgt. Robert Springmann of Ft. Hood, TX; his mother Tina Webber and her husband Ben Martin of Hartland; 2 brothers, Zachary Martin of Hartland and William Springmann of Brandywine, MD; a sister, Keana Martin of Hartland; his grandparents, many cousins, aunts, and uncles, including Aunt Krissy Martin of Orono; and a brother-in-law, Hayden Black of Newport.

Military funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, July 29th at Nokomis Regional High, 266 Williams Road, Newport, with Chaplain (LTC) Andrew Gibson of the Maine National Guard officiating. Burial with military honors will be held following the funeral at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport.
